Thymosin Alpha-1 activates dendritic cells and T-lymphocytes, enhancing both innate and adaptive immune responses. It promotes the differentiation of T-helper cells (Th1 pathway), increasing interferon-gamma and IL-2 production: cytokines that coordinate antiviral and anti-tumour cell-mediated immunity. Ta1 also activates natural killer (NK) cells, upregulates MHC class II antigen presentation on dendritic cells, and modulates toll-like receptor signalling to improve the speed and specificity of the immune response without inducing systemic inflammation.

Thymosin Alpha-1 has an exceptionally well-characterised safety profile from its decades of approved clinical use. The most commonly reported effects in clinical trials are mild and transient injection site reactions (redness, burning). No significant systemic adverse effects have been documented even in immune-compromised populations where it is primarily used. It does not cause immunosuppression and is not associated with autoimmune phenomena. As an immunostimulant, theoretical caution is warranted in individuals with active autoimmune conditions. No drug interactions of clinical significance have been identified.
