"hCG priming" effect in controlled ovarian stimulation through a long protocol.
Key finding
The study reports that the mean number of oocytes retrieved was not significantly different between the two treatment groups, although the percentage of mature oocytes tended to be higher but not significantly different in hCG-treated patients.
Reproductive biology and endocrinology : RB&E 2009
Direct HCG evidence. Relevant to HCG
Early hCG addition to rFSH for ovarian stimulation in IVF provides better results and the cDNA copies of the hCG receptor may be an indicator of successful stimulation.
Key finding
The study reports that it seems that hCG permits a highly effective and more stable occupancy of rLH/hCG receptors and gives more follicles and more oocytes.
Reproductive biology and endocrinology : RB&E 2009
Direct HCG evidence. Relevant to HCG
Addition of low dose hCG to rFSh benefits older women during ovarian stimulation for IVF.
Key finding
The study reports that addition of low dose hCG to recFSH compared with recFSH alone significantly modified cycle characteristics in patients >/= 40 years and could be of potential benefit for IVF cycles in older infertile women.
Reproductive biology and endocrinology : RB&E 2012
Direct HCG evidence. Relevant to HCG
FSH replaced by low-dose hCG in the late follicular phase versus continued FSH for assisted reproductive techniques.
Key finding
The study reports that we are very uncertain of the effect on live birth, OHSS and miscarriage of using low-dose hCG to replace FSH during the late follicular phase of COH in women undergoing ART, compared to the use of conventional COH.

Direct HCG evidence. Relevant to HCG
AAV-mediated gene therapy produces fertile offspring in the Lhcgr-deficient mouse model of Leydig cell failure.
Key finding
The study reports that we screen several adeno-associated virus (AAV) serotypes and identify AAV8 as an efficient vector to drive exogenous Lhcgr expression in progenitor Leydig cells through interstitial injection.

Direct HCG evidence. Relevant to HCG
Co-administration of GnRH-agonist and hCG for final oocyte maturation (double trigger) in patients with low number of oocytes retrieved per number of preovulatory follicles--a preliminary report.
Key finding
The study reports that three ongoing clinical pregnancies were recorded in the study group and none in the hCG-only trigger group.

Response to ovulation trigger is correlated to late follicular phase progesterone levels: A hypothesis explaining reduced reproductive outcomes caused by increased late follicular progesterone rise.
Key finding
The study reports that this in turn causes a high P4 output in response to the trigger.
